Beginning the first week of February, All Places Together will be launching a series about prayer. We’ll be exploring what the bible says about prayer as well as different ways that we can pray. While we may all be praying to the same God, there are lots of different ways to connect and not all of them involve bowing our heads, folding our hands, and closing our eyes.
As part of the series, Pastor Colleen is looking for stories about prayer. You can share them via e-mail (info@allplacestogether.org) by Feb 1 to be included. You’re invited to reflect about:
Who taught you to pray? What did they teach you? Is that how you still pray?
Do you have a favorite story about prayer from the bible? Why is it your favorite? How has the story shaped your prayer life?
What does the Lord’s Prayer mean to you?
How do you engage your body in prayer?
If you make prayer shawls, walk labyrinths, use prayer beads, or engage in another type of physical prayer, how did you begin that journey? How do you feel connected to God during the process?
If you’re good at silence, how did you develop this practice? How do you maintain it? How have you heard God’s voice in the process?
Share a story about how praying the hours has been a meaningful practice for you.
How does music, either making or listening, contribute to your prayer life?
How does praying together in worship feed your individual faith and connection to the wider community?
Does your faith community have a particular prayer practice that is meaningful to you?
Why do you keep praying if there is still war, hunger, and suffering?
The core affirmation of All Places Together is that God loves us, wherever, whoever, and however we are. When we flip that affirmation around, we get: We love God, wherever, whoever, and however God is. But do we know where, who, and how God is? Join Pastor Colleen is exploring these questions and getting to know God (again).
